Accessibility Statement – Your Space Apartments

Our company operates in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 and the Equality Act 2010 and, as such, we encourage all prospective guests to talk to us about any special accommodation requirements they may have. We will be pleased to discuss our most appropriate accommodation solutions for accessibility with the aim of making all guests’ stay as comfortable as possible.

 

Introduction

The entrances to Eden House, Byron House, Manor House, Hamiltons and Nelson Court are all on the ground floor, with level access.

  • The main entrance to Jubilee House is up 4 steps, Cambridge Place 16 stairs up and Market Rise 8 steps up.
  • All public areas, halls, stairs, landings and lifts are well lit using a combination of ceiling and wall lights (fluorescent lighting is used in the lifts). Corridors are slightly dimmer, lit by wall lights. Furthermore, here is also a mirror on the back of each lift.

 

All the main doors can be opened using security codes and keys. The main entrance door widths are as follows:

Byron House:  106 cm for main door, 90 cm for door access to each floor

Cambridge Place:  87 cm for main door

Eden House:  81 cm for main door, lift door 82 cm

Hamiltons: 85 cm for main door, 80 cm for internal door (front and back), lift door 80 cm

Jubilee House: 85 cm for main door

Manor House:  112 cm for main door

Market Rise:  91 cm for main door

Nelson Court:  105 cm for main door

 

Public corridor widths and floor coverings are as follows for each block:

  • There are lifts at Eden House and Hamiltons (one in each building), the lifts do have audio announcements and tactile buttons.
  • There is no signage in the corridors, although the numbers on the apartment doors are raised.
  • The following information describes a typical apartment that has the most accessibility.

We do not provide additional disability facilities at this time. Despite this, some apartments have better accessibility than others. Please contact our Reservations team if you require any more information regarding more accessible units.

 

Apartment Description: Hamiltons

For one of the most accessible apartments we offer the below statement is based on the Hamiltons Apartments.

Unit Entrance

  • The apartment’s external door widths are 84 cm.
  • The apartment internal door widths are 81 cm
  • Apartment corridors are well lit, by wall lights.

All measurements taken within the apartment are typical of a standard apartment within the Hamiltons. However, they may vary slightly from apartment to apartment (for instance the kitchen, bathroom and bedrooms), depending on the apartment location within the block and varying apartment layouts.

Living Area & Corridor

  • The corridors are well lit with ceiling spotlights.
  • The majority of furniture is moveable and can be rearranged if requested. Most dining chairs are without arms.
  • Lighting within the living area consists of ceiling lights (in some cases spotlights) and floor lamps.
  • The flooring is wooden throughout the corridor and living areas. All the apartments are on one level.
  • The living area within the apartment has a mixture of seating, with sofas, sofa beds, dining chairs. All units are furnished slightly differently, for any advice regarding this, please contact our Reservations team with the following email address reservations@yourspaceapartments.com.
  • Sofa: 36cm average from floor to seat.
  • Dining table: 75cm average from floor to top of the table.

Kitchen

  • Most kitchens within the apartments are open plan in style.
  • There are also dishwasher and washing machine facilities, integrated in the lower level cupboards.
  • The work surface/food preparation area is 90.5 cm average high. The highest shelf within a cupboard is 198 cm average. The highest shelf within a fridge/freezer is 178 cm average and the lowest drawer of the fridge/freezer is 30 cm average. All crockery, glassware and other kitchen equipment can be moved to lower level shelving on request.
  • The kitchens are well lit, spot lights are used throughout, and there is also a separate light on the cooker hood. The flooring is wooden.
  • All of the sink taps located within the Hamiltons kitchens are 1 lever basin mixer taps. However, some apartment kitchens contain traditional turning basin taps, please enquire if you require a certain type.

The heights of kitchen appliances are as follows:

  • Oven: average 120 cm from the handle on the door (drop down doors)
  • Hob: average 90 cm
  • Microwave: average 147 cm (from the plate within the microwave to the floor)

Bedrooms & Sleeping Areas

Within the apartments, bedrooms are not numbered (the apartment main doors have raised numbers). All apartments in the Hamiltons contain double beds and single beds (in the two bedroom). Whats more, the majority of bedroom furniture can be moved, although some bedrooms contain built-in wardrobes. Wardrobe rails are not adjustable. Rooms are bright and evenly lit, with ceiling lighting and table lamps on each bedside table. There is a good colour contrast between the floor, walls and doors; carpet is short a pile. As well as, the bedding is non-feather.

Each apartment differs slightly in size; most contain one larger bedroom and one smaller bedroom, which could be suitable for a personal assistant/carer or friend/family member. Moreover, some apartments living rooms contain a sofa bed, or we can provide a put you up bed which could also meet these needs if required.

  • Smaller bedrooms in the Hamiltons have average 112 cm space each side of the bed (the smallest width being 100 cm).
  • The larger bedrooms hold a transfer space of at least average 118 cm on one side of the bed.
  • The height of the beds from the floor to the top of the mattress is average 52 cm. All beds have average 18 cm space under the beds.

Bathrooms, Shower rooms & WCs (En-suite or shared)

Main bathrooms in apartments have either a walk-in shower or a shower over a bath. The height of the bath sides are average 64 cm. Please contact our Reservations team if you specifically require a walk-in shower with the following email address: reservations@yourspaceapartments.com. All sinks have pedestals underneath. All taps within the bathrooms are 1 lever basin mixer taps. Lighting in bathrooms are spotlights, and flooring is tiling throughout.

  • The height of the WC from the floor to the seat is average f40.5 cm.
  • The height of the wash basin is average 77 cm.

Grounds & Gardens

Hamiltons has back and front external areas. These areas have a level concrete paved surface, but there is no seating available.

 

Additional Information

At this time, our team has not received any Disability Awareness Training. We are happy to welcome assistance dogs, and a water bowl can be provided on request. We also have some apartments that have an area where a mobility scooter can be charged, please ask at the Reservations team for more details on how to access this. with the following email address: reservations@yourspaceapartments.com. The nearest General Hospital with an A&E unit and walk-in NHS facility is the Addenbrooke’s Hospital, approx. 5 miles away (or less). Lastly, we provide high-speed WiFi is available in every apartment, free of charge.
